BZÄK-Vizepräsident Oesterreich: Wechselwirkung von Diabetes und Entzündungen des Zahnhalteapparates im Versorgungsalltag noch nicht ausreichend berücksichtigt
Die Bedeutung der Zahnmedizin für die allgemeinmedizinische Gesundheit - auch bei den großen Volkserkrankungen - wächst. Die Wechselbeziehung zwischen Diabetes mellitus (im Volksmund "Zuckerkrankheit") und Entzündungen des Zahnhalteapparates (Parodontitis) sind Gegenstand zahlreicher medizinischer wie zahnmedizinischer Untersuchungen und können heute als erwiesen angesehen werden. Trotzdem ist dieses Wissen noch längst nicht ausreichend im Versorgungsalltag angekommen. Deswegen fordert der Vizepräsident der Bundeszahnärztekammer, Dr. Dietmar Oesterreich, anlässlich des Weltdiabetestages am 14. November eine verbesserte Zusammenarbeit von Ärzten und Zahnärzten zum Wohle ihrer Patienten. Dazu gehört neben der Kooperation auch die notwendige Aufklärung der Patienten über diese Zusammenhänge in den Arzt- und Zahnarztpraxen.
